Can you add an extra room?

Families are growing, kids are staying home for longer, parents are moving in with their children, people are working from home and then there’s guests to think about. An extra room, whether it be a full bedroom or an office, is always appreciated.

But you don’t need to start knocking down walls and doing huge extensions. Enclosing a small space for an office works well, while splitting a larger room into two smaller rooms will give you additional sleeping space without a huge cost. If you live in an older house or apartment, there’s a chance you may still have the original layout for your kitchen and bathroom, which can really date a house. While these are a more expensive renovation and will take a little longer, they can certainly add a lot of value to your home.

Many buyers will consider the kitchen and bathroom as the main rooms in the house that they use, so something modern looking, with stylish, durable materials is always a great way to go.

Get gardening

You don’t need to spend a lot on landscaping, but your garden and yard are the first things potential buyers see, so making them welcoming is essential. Tidying up your garden, pulling out any weeds and having the lawn trimmed regularly are basics that should be done. If you want to go a little further, you could consider having new garden beds put in with low maintenance plants and some fresh mulch.

As well as plants, you could add features to the garden such as solar lighting, ponds or rock gardens to add a unique touch.

Add a little storage

Everyone loves a home with ample storage space, and if your home doesn’t have a lot, this is certainly an area to look at. But how to add that space without taking away too much floor space?

If you are renovating your kitchen or bathroom, consider installing more cupboards or draw space or even building in a butler’s pantry. A mudroom is also a great way to add a little more storage, particularly if you have an unused part of your home. Installing a great bench seat, hooks and overhead open cupboards can make a lot of difference.

Other options for more storage might include under-stair storage if you have a multi-level home, recessed draws, built in bookshelves and built in wardrobes.
