A small fishing town situated just over the Victoria border and located at the mouth of the Glenelg River and Discovery Bay. Approximately 17 kilometres from the regional city of Mount Gambier.
Nelson; where the river meets the sea. The town is abundant with natural attractions, with the Glenelg River flowing through the town. The southern area of the river eventually clears into Oxbow Lake, which connects into the Southern Ocean.
Nelson is a wonderful spot for both leisure boating, skiing and canoeing, the river provides a stunning backdrop all while having fun on the water. There are three boat ramps and two canoe launch sites within the town, which are easily accessible.
Take a dip in the river or ocean or have a swim at Estuary beach, there are plenty of riverside locations to choose from.
Plenty of options for fishing in Nelson too, with fish including bream, mulloway, estuary perch and mullet ready to be caught (check if fishing permit needed prior).
Attractions within the Nelson area include The World Heritage Picanninnie Ponds, which are approximately 10 minutes drive from the town over the South Australian border; look for the beach springs and floating rock. Â
